Employer Resource Network

For businesses, worker instability erodes productivity and may lead to job loss. It costs businesses an estimated $3,000-$5,000 to replace an employee. Pima County is piloting an innovative model with business partners that want to improve employee retention and productivity.

Employer Resource Networks are industry-sponsored programs that employ a Resource Navigator to work with employees to provide confidential resolution to problems that might otherwise jeopardize the employee's job. The Resource Navigator meets with employees at a time and place convenient for both workers and the business operation – for example, at the plant during shift change – and connects those employees to a wide variety of community services and benefits through information, advocacy and referral.

Employers pay a fee to receive an ERN "share,"  typically one half-day per week when the Resource Navigator will be at the company to meet with employees. ERN member companies meet monthly to review aggregate data and assess the return on their investment.

Pima County provides a trained and experienced Resource Navigator to identify rapid solutions for member company employees. Training is provided for company managers and supervisors, as well as support to the company to promote employee awareness of the benefit.

Through March 2018 Pima County is providing a resource navigator to companies that want to try the ERN at no cost. A signed contract with Pima County is required to initiate this membership. Once the ERN is fully operational, the contract will be amended to reflect annual membership fees - likely between $8,000 and $9,500 for one share.
