Read More NewsPima County’s Bike Ambassadors will hand out newly printed maps of The Loop (Pima County’s 120-mile-plus shared-use path), bike bells and other safety items as part of outreach events held through the end of February 2018.
Bike Ambassadors working with Pima County’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Program will give out the items on a first-come, first-served basis. Bells are adjustable and fit any diameter handlebars on all bikes.
In addition to the events at set locations along The Loop, other Ambassadors plan to “roam The Loop” meaning they will take supplies on their bikes, then ride in either direction from the Ambassadors’ station to go visit other trailheads and rest stops and provide items to users. Among the additional items that Ambassadors will pass out are bike and pedestrian safety bookmarks to help people understand how to safely share the path.
All events will be held from 9 to 11:30 a.m. with exceptions for two special events. Dates and locations are:
- Saturday, Jan. 13: Cañada del Oro River Park, Christina-Taylor Green Memorial River Park, Shannon and Magee;
- Sunday, Jan. 21: Santa Cruz River Park, west bank south of Speedway Boulevard – Huron Street and Riverside Drive (800 N. Riverside Drive).
- Saturday, Feb. 10: Julian Wash Greenway at Roy Schoonover Trailhead, 7500 S. Kolb Road;
- Sunday, Feb. 18: Rillito River Park, Heirloom Farmers Market, 4502 N. 1st Ave.
The special events staffed by bike ambassadors are both at Saguaro National Park’s East Bike Ramada (by the Visitors’ Center), 3693 S. Old Spanish Trail, 8-10 a.m. They will take place on Sunday, Jan. 7, and Saturday, Feb. 17.
