Students age 12-16 can take babysitter training classes offered in three different summer sessions beginning June 6-7.

The courses are offered by the Drexel Heights Fire District thanks to funding from Pima County Community Development Block Grants.

The training includes classes such as child care, poison prevention, fire safety, kitchen safety, use of fire extinguishers, resume building, and more. The training also includes American Heart Association certification in infant, child and adult CPR, the use of AED’s and First Aid.

The 12-hour training is offered over two days. Sessions are offered June 6-7, June 21-22 and July 11-12, all from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“Our students are learning not only child care tips but life safety skills,” said Tracy Koslowski, public education/information manager. “Everyone should learn how to use a fire extinguisher, change a baby’s diaper and perform CPR skills when needed.”
