Procurement wins excellence award

A national industry organization has awarded the Pima County Procurement Department for excellence.

The National Procurement Institute, Inc. gave the Procurement Department its 2018 Excellence in Procurement Award. The 2018 award marks the 14th consecutive year Pima County Procurement has earned the distinction.

“Earning this award demonstrates that the Pima County Procurement Department is performing nationally recognized public procurement best practices for the betterment of the citizens of Pima County,” said Mary Jo Furphy, Procurement Director.

Pima County is one of just 45 counties in the United States and Canada to receive the award in 2018 and one of only 11 agencies in Arizona.

In 1995, the National Procurement Institute established a program designed to recognize organizational excellence in public procurement. The prestigious award is provided to organizations that demonstrate excellence by obtaining a high score based on standardized criteria on an annual basis.

The continually-evolving criteria are designed to measure state of the art in best practices such as innovation, professionalism, productivity, e-procurement, and leadership attributes of the procurement organization.
