  • County to partner with Perimeter Cycling for ‘Loop the Loop’ Sept. 15

Pima County will partner with Perimeter Bicycling Association of America to present the third annual Pima County El Tour Loop the Loop presented by Rio Nuevo, on Saturday, Sept. 15, from 6:30 to 10:30 a.m. on the Chuck Huckelberry Loop.  The activity marks the kickoff to the 60-day 2018 El Tour Season.

A wrap-up party after the ride will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Ramada Tucson, 777 W. Cushing. The event features live music, food trucks, prizes, drawings, and the raffle of a KHS Tucson mountain bike valued at $2,399.

Loop the Loop is a FREE, easy, casual, fun ride open to individuals of all ages and abilities. It’s a cycling celebration encouraging everyone to take up cycling as a means to better physical and mental health and to use the Loop to navigate in and around Pima County. While on the Loop, participants can meet as many as 20 of the 40 non-profit organizations who will benefit from the 36th El Tour held on Saturday, Nov.17.
    Loop the Loop
“We’re always happy to partner with Perimeter Bicycling Association of America and Rio Nuevo on ‘Loop the Loop,’ which not only showcases the Loop, but also generates excitement for El Tour de Tucson,” said Chris Cawein, director of Pima County’s Natural Resources, Parks and Recreation Department, which oversees maintenance of the Loop. “It’s just another way in which members of the community are able to take advantage of the great community resource we have in the Loop.”

Starting and finishing anywhere on the Loop at any time during Loop the Loop, cyclists are invited to ride any distance on the route at a leisurely pace along the shared-use paths connecting the Rillito, Santa Cruz and Pantano River Parks with the Julian Wash and Harrison Road Greenways, avoiding motor vehicle traffic on the streets.

To earn entry into the prize drawings, cyclists can visit any or all of the 14 stations along the Loop to pick up raffle tickets. Go to the Loop the Loop website or the Facebook event for maps and location details. On Sept. 15, participants can turn in tickets for entry into the drawings beginning at 11 a.m. and continuing every 15 minutes until 1 p.m. The KHS bicycle will be drawn at 1 p.m. You must be present to win.

Loop the Loop will provide the chance to see the completed Loop, join a charity team, sign up for El Tour and find out about the different group rides or training events that will prepare riders for El Tour. Look for free swag and advice at the 14 stops along the Loop.
