  • Stop by for Procurement Department's meet-and-greet

Kris Mackey knows sometimes the procurement process in Pima County can feel a bit like a scavenger hunt — winning requires the right combination of specialized expertise and attention to detail.

File: Magnifying GlassTo that end, the Pima County Procurement Department plans a “Meet and Greet” from 10 a.m. to 2 on March 8 in Procurement’s offices on the third floor of Administration East, 130 W. Congress.

Enjoy snacks and get to know procurement officers and other staffers who can answer questions about the process and help clear up confusion over everything from contracts and compliance to insurance and best practices.

Mackey, who helped plan the informal open house to mark “Procurement Month” in March, hopes it helps people understand how the process informs much of what procurement does.

“There are a lot of ‘i’s’ that need to be dotted and ’t’s’ that need to be crossed in the procurement process. It can seem arcane but the details are important,” Mackey said. “We wanted to give people who maybe only deal with procurement occasionally a chance to chat with experts who really know this stuff."

The event will also include, appropriately enough, a scavenger hunt starting out from the department’s large conference room. In this case though, the goal will be to find the right procurement staffer to solve a particular procurement scenario.

Procurement will hold a similar event for public and private vendors in its office March 19 and coming up April 26 is the annual Procurement Fair at the Kino Event Center, 2805 E Ajo Way. That gathering, hosted in conjunction with Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, gives public and private sector businesses an opportunity to showcase their goods and services to purchasing agents and representatives from federal, state and local procurement agencies while gaining insight into the government contracting process.
