The Pima County Department of Environmental Quality’s Clean Air Program will, again, be participating in Cyclovia Tucson on Sunday, April 7 from 9 a.m. 3 p.m.. The 3-mile route that Living Streets Alliance has set for this Cyclovia event is from Banner University Medicine near Warren Avenue and E. Lester Street to the Corbett Porch activity hub near Sixth Street and Sixth Avenue.
PDEQ’s booth will be at Catalina Park near Fourth Avenue and Second Street to provide free, fun, interactive, family-oriented educational activities. Thousands of people will be out on the car-free and care-free streets walking, skating, biking and meeting friends and neighbors while using human-powered, pollution-free modes of transportation.
“I really look forward to this event! So many happy people visiting an interesting part of town, becoming more confident riding on two (or three) wheels, having fun at the activity hubs and enjoying our amazing Tucson community,” said Beth Gorman, PDEQ Clean Air Senior Program Manager. “One of my favorite parts of Cyclovia Tucson is seeing all the smiling faces and the young people gaining self-confidence while learning to use their tricycles or skates on car-free streets alongside family and friends. The joy is contagious!”
PDEQ will be helping to celebrate National Poetry Month at our booth by encouraging participants to create green-themed poems to spark eco-actions. In addition, booth visitors can give the Wheel of Wisdom a spin to increase knowledge of environmental topics and complete the
“Healthy Air Is In Our Hands” pledge card for a chance to win $100!
Living Streets Alliance has been presenting Cyclovia Tucson to the community for nine years and it has grown to one of the region’s largest events, drawing over 30,000 people celebrating safely in the streets. PDEQ’s Clean Air Program has been a sponsor of Cyclovia since it began because the event provides opportunities for people to get out of their vehicles and become more comfortable using alternative modes of transportation.
