On July 15, Pima County Department of Transportation along with their contractor Southern Arizona Paving, began shoulder installation and pavement preservation work on Houghton Road from just south of Andrada Polytechnic High School (APHS) south to Andrada Road. Work hours are 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
The contractor is piloting vehicles through the project work zone while crews begin work along the edge of pavement to add shoulders. Heavy delays are occurring, so motorists should seek alternate routes and plan ahead. Motorists may use Wilmot Road or Wentworth Road as alternate routes that both lead to I-10.
The project will improve safety and preserve the existing pavement along Houghton Road from APHS south to Andrada Road. The project will also include seal coat from APHS to Sahuarita Road. The project is scheduled to be completed by fall 2019.
Please approach the area with caution and obey all traffic control devices.
In the event of mechanical failure or inclement weather, the construction schedule is subject to change.
