The scope of this traffic calming project changed as the project encountered utility conflicts with Southwest Gas, sight visibility and safety constraints, as well as a hydrology report required by the City of Tucson.
The results of these changes did not curtail the project objectives to reduce high-speed traffic and increase pedestrian safety. Six solar-powered street lights were purchased and installed along Treat Avenue at the intersections of Spring, Alturas, Sequoyah, and Glenn Streets. Four chicanes including 30 trees were built on Treat Avenue south of Alturas, Copper, Sequoyah and Sylvia Streets. To establish the trees and plants, hand-watering will be provided for a period of one year by City of Tucson.
