Get creative with your 2020 commuting

Ask yourself as the new year approaches….”Do I really like driving alone and talking to myself on my way to work?” ‘Tis the season to ponder ways to make positive changes in your life for the coming year. There is something you can do that will save you money, reduce traffic congestion, and help the planet by reducing carbon emissions. Welcome an opportunity to drive a little less and smile a little more each week in 2020. Take PDEQ’s Healthy Air Is In Our Hands Drive Less pledge AND you can enter for a chance to WIN a $100 gift card!

The Pima County Department of Environmental Quality’s Clean Air Program suggests you creatively consider sharing rides in a car, on the bus or streetcar. If you Bus ridingdrive less, our air will be healthier to breathe. In addition, there is an excellent chance getting to work will be substantially MORE FUN, and you will naturally be happier and healthier in spirit as you build friendships during your commute.

A New Year’s Drive-Less Smile More resolution could also launch your successful 2020 weight-loss and fitness plan! Maximize health benefits by using active modes of transportation, such as biking and walking. Explore creative commuting strategies such as exploring The Chuck Huckelberry Loop as part of your car-free commute, or mixing and matching mass transit with energetic travel modes.

Also, keep in mind that motor vehicles cause a large portion of our unhealthy air. Riding mass transit, carpooling, walking, or hopping on the bike are effective ways to reduce air pollution and wear and tear on your vehicle. Also, think about the significant amount of money you’ll save at the gas pump when you drive less.

So, in this new year, you can reduce stress, catch up on reading, make new buddies, save money, get some exercise and feel good about the transportation choices you make in 2020. Now that is a resolution you can benefit from all year long!
