picture of gemsPima Animal Care Center is offering a special discount to help people “find their hidden gem” just in time for the big, annual gem show celebration. This sale happens Jan. 19 to Feb. 9 at the shelter.

“We look forward to the excitement of the Gem show and all the visitors it brings, every year,” said Kristen Hassen, Director of Animal Services. “We have dozens of incredible cats and dogs who get passed over by adopters for weeks or months just because we have so many animals. We call these pets our ‘hidden gems.’”

Throughout the Tucson Gem, Mineral, & Fossil showcase, adopters will get a variety of discount offers on the adoption of pets that are four months or older. In the adoptions lobby, there will be a plastic treasure chest full of plastic gems. Visitors will have the chance to dig through a treasure chest full of colorful gems and coins that will reveal their special adoption discount at the counter. Values will range from $5 off to free adoptions.

“We are hanging up signs on the kennels of some of our long-stay pets, to tell people what we love about them,” Hassen said. “Look for the jewels, read the information, and find your new best friend!”

Pets who have been at the shelter longer than 30 days and pets five years or older automatically come with a $0 adoption fee. Right now, PACC has 409 puppies and dogs and 154 kittens and cats on campus.

Anyone interested in adopting a pet can stop by the shelter at 4000 N. Silverbell Rd. or visit PACC’s website. The adoption price covers a microchip, spay or neuter surgery, and up-to-date vaccinations.
