Found a Stray Pet?

On any given day, PACC has 350-750 animals onsite. As a managed intake shelter, we accept stray animals anytime during our regular business hours. There are a few ways you can help a stray pet get back to its home without bringing it to the shelter:

Found a Stray Dog?

Here are a few things you can try to get the pet home:

  1. Does it have a microchip?
    • Get the dog scanned to check for a microchip. Almost every vet or shelter can scan for a microchip for free! Once you have the chip number visit Petmicrochiplookup.com to find out who it is registered with.

  2. Does it have a dog license?
    • If the dog is wearing a Pima County license, please call us at 724-5900, extension 4 to get contact information for the owner.

  3. Is it wearing a collar?
    • Some owners purchase tags and put their phone number on it. Double check to see if the dog has some sort of tag. Owner will also write their contact information directly on the collar in case the tag falls off.

  4. Check with your neighbors or other people in the area
    • People might recognize the pet and be able to point you in the direction of it's home.

  5. Take the pet(s) home for safe keeping
    • Keeping them in a home helps us keep our population down and prevents them from being housed in high stress environments.

  6. Hang Flyers
    • Hang flyers at the major intersections where the pet was found so they can be seen. Most dogs are found within a mile of their home.
      • Feel free to make your own posters or use ours.
  7. Post Pictures

    • Try to post pictures on every social media site. This includes Facebook, Twitter Nextdoor, etc. There are several pages set up for just lost and found pets and even some that are for certian areas of town.
  8. Check websites for lost reports

  9. File a found report

    • You can file a found report via our online submission form.

      • Be advised that if someone contacts us and thinks they found their pet, we will provide them with your name and phone number.

  10. Bringing to PACC
    • If you are not able to house the dog safely, you can bring it down to the shelter during regular business hours.
      • To schedule an appointment call 520-724-7222 and speak to a member of our Pet Support Team. They also might have other options that do not include coming to the shelter

Sick or Injured?

If you have found a sick or injured pet that needs medical assistance please bring it to PACC during regular business hours. For after-hours service call our Dispatch line at 520-724-5900 ext 4.

Found a Stray Cat or Kitten?

Cats:

If you find healthy stray cats and kittens, whether they are friendly or not; it probably means someone is caring for them and they are either part of a community of cats that are being managed or they belong to someone who allows their cats to be outside. These are cats that need to remain where they are. If you are unsure please check our website regarding Trap Neuter and Return options or call 520-724-5983 and leave a message for the community cat team.

Kittens:

If you found kittens please visit our Found Kittens page for information on how to keep them with mom and out of the shelter.

Sick or Injured?

If you have found a sick or injured pet that needs medical assistance please bring it to PACC during regular business hours. For after-hours service call our Dispatch line at 520-724-5900 ext 4.
