  • Lost a Pet

Losing a pet can be a stressful and confusing time so we've outlined some proven tips and tricks below. We want to help.

I have LOST a pet and want to file a report:

    Step 1: Work the neighborhood!

    - Ask your neighbors if they have seen your pet and post flyers with your contact information and your pet’s picture.
    • For dogs: Most dogs are able to be recovered within a mile of home within the first 24 hours.
    • For cats: When indoor cats become frightened or lost, they tend to hunker down in a hiding spot next to a building and not move until they are found or get hungry. Most indoor cats are found less than three houses away.

Step 2: Post the pet on Petco Love Lost!

    - Search their database to see if your pet has been posted. This database uses facial recognition to match a photo of your pet to pets currently reported as found in your area. You can share the Lost Pet profile to your local social media pages. Petco Love Lost also gives you the ability to make flyers to post!

     Step 3: Check the chip!

    - If your pet is microchipped or has any form of identification, make sure your contact information is up to date so someone can reach you if they locate your pet.

    Step 4: Check online!

Search local social media sites and your local animal shelter to see if someone has found your pet.
