TCC exercise classTucson Cancer Conquerors, a group that meets regularly at Pima County’s Brandi Fenton Memorial Park for fitness and support, has started online exercise classes through Facebook Live and Zoom during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The all-volunteer, non-profit support group dedicated to empowering cancer survivors, has purchased loop exercise bands so members can follow along with workouts at home. Dr. Liz Almli, TCC president, will practice social distancing when she distributes bands and sweatshirts to members on Saturday, April 11, at 8 a.m. at Brandi Fenton Park, where the group normally holds its classes.

Almli will distribute items on the grassy commons area at the park. Members can drive in and pick up their gear without leaving their cars. Almli will distribute the items while wearing her own Personal Protective Equipment.

Some of the TCC members are elderly and live alone, so TCC has a “Get Support” phone tree where each of the 10 board members keep tabs on 15 others.

The Pima County Board of Supervisors approved the partnership with TCC five years ago. Besides meeting for exercise classes, group members traditionally have gathered for birthday dinners, coffee cafes, even a book club.
