Disease Criteria Explanation

This set of criteria helps us understand the way COVID-19 is spreading and impacting people in Pima County and Arizona. Cases identified over long periods of time tell us how the actions, policy decisions, and other practices of our community affect the spread and severity of new COVID-19 infections. In order to make decisions about when and how to safely prevent the spread of illness as we move forward, we must understand these trends:

Decreasing positive cases over 14 days

Not Met – The number of new positive cases continues to increase or plateau, regardless of rate

Progress – The number of new cases begins to decrease continually for at least a 7 day period

Criteria Met – The number of new cases decreases continually for 14 days AND remains decreasing while all other criteria are met. If new cases begins to increase, the category will return to “Progress.”
