Child Care, Camps, and School Resources

Schools

Officials and parents should stay up-to-date on local guidance, school closure information, and resources for students and staff by visiting the Pima County School Superintendent's webpage.

Child Care Centers

A key component of protecting staff and children if your facility has remained open is the early identification and separation of anyone who may be sick. Child Care Centers should:

  • Immediately separate and send home any child or staff who are ill - especially with acute respiratory symptoms (not allergies or chronic conditions).
  • Implement their annual seasonal influenza plan.
  • Children and staff who are ill, especially with acute respiratory symptoms (not allergies or chronic conditions), should stay home.
  • Review sick policies for staff; ensure staff can stay home when ill.
  • All employees and daycare attendees who have a fever (100.4° F [37.8° C] or greater), cough, runny nose, shortness of breath, or other respiratory symptoms stay home and not return to work/school/daycare until they are free of fever and other respiratory symptoms for at least 72 hours (without the use of fever-reducing medication). Chronic medical conditions like allergies or controlled asthma do not require exclusion from work/school/daycare. This recommendation applies regardless of whether the individual has been tested for COVID19 or not, and is advised to reduce overall risk of transmission of flu-like illness before returning to work or daycare.
  • Ensure prescribed cleaning is happening at school facilities (routine disinfectants are appropriate).
  • Enhance cleaning of high touch surfaces like door knobs, toilet handles, and sink handles.
  • Ensure that hand sanitizer, soap/paper towels and tissues are widely available.
  • Remind students to cover their coughs/sneezes with a tissue or their elbow.
