Canada Del Oro North Bank I-10 to Thornydale

Project status: Complete, landscape establishment phase

This project is undertaken by the Regional Flood Control District (District) as part of a Development Agreement approved by the Pima County Board of Supervisors and Town of Marana Town Council on May 19, 2020. As part of the Agreement, the Developers adjacent to the Canada del Oro have provided the land for the bank protection and linear park along this reach of the river. They are also funding 50% of the bank protection construction, 100% of the linear park construction and 100% of the construction document preparation. The District is overseeing construction and funding 50% of the bank protection costs.

This project is intended to fill in an existing gap in soil cement bank protection from I-10 to Thornydale. The project plans to have a maintenance access road that will connect the Loop on the north bank of the Canada del Oro from Ted Walker Park, west of I-10 to Thornydale Road to the east. An underpass beneath I-10 and the Union Pacific tracks will be constructed as a later project phase.

Scope of Work

Due to permitting issues with Union Pacific Railroad, the project limits have been modified for the first phase of the project to the first 2100 linear feet of bank protection west of Thornydale Road. Construction of the soil cement is complete with the associated linear park under construction.
