    Environmental rules and regulations are major tools in protecting Pima County's unique environment. These rules and regulations set standards for environmental quality and limits on pollutants.

    Rulemaking in Pima County

    Pima County Department of Environmental Quality (PDEQ) is a regulatory agency serving Pima County by protecting public health and the environment. PDEQ operates programs to monitor air and water quality, Earless Lizardhazardous waste, solid waste, and assist in waste minimization and pollution prevention. PDEQ also provides public outreach, education, and citizens assistance; processes environmental permits; and responds to public complaints and inquiries with investigations and enforcement.

    PDEQ's regulatory authority is established pursuant to applicable provisions of the Arizona Revised Statutes (A.R.S.), Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.), Pima County Code (PCC), Federal Environmental Statutes, delegation from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (via the Clean Air Act), and by delegation from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality.

    Introduction to Rulemaking Process - Overview of process used for creating and amending existing environmental ordinances within Pima County and rules within Pima County Code Title 7 Environmental Quality and Title 17 Air Quality.

    Draft, Proposed & Final PDEQ Rules - PDEQ rulemaking activities pertaining to Pima County Ordinances and/or Pima County Code dealing with environmental issues will be posted for review.

    Pima County State Implementation Plan - Information regarding the Pima County portion of the Arizona State Implementation Plan (SIP) will be posted for review.
