The project consists of reconstructing approximately a half mile of Romero Road from Roger Road to Wetmore Road. This project will replace and reconstruct an existing two-lane roadway to a new three-lane roadway with drainage facilities, paved shoulders/bicycle lanes, concrete curbs and sidewalks connecting residential areas to Homer Davis Elementary School, Flowing Wells Community Center, and Flowing Wells branch of the Pima County library.
Proposed Improvements: There will also be two "art" walls at the school entrance with tilework (tiles) designed and created by the students depicting dragons, the school's mascot.
Safety Education: The project also includes 2nd grade pedestrian education and 4th grade bicycle education for the Homer Davis students.
Money for the project comes from several federal funding sources (70%), Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) sales tax (20%), and County Highway Users Revenue Funds (10%). The total project bid is $994,011.24. Federal Transportation Enhancement funds in the amount of $463,384 will be used towards the construction and construction administration of the sidewalks and bike lanes portion of the work.
