Administrative Review Submittal Requirements

Note: Bolded items are required for Administrative Completeness determination when applicable to project.
  • Alert!! Depending on project scope, your application may require prior approval from Regional Flood Control District (RFCD).
  • PDF file of construction drawings.
  • PDF file of sealed structural calculations if design uses engineered systems.


  • This checklist is for signs regulated by the Pima County Zoning Code Chapter 18.79

General Requirements

  • Site plan showing:
    • The location of all wall signs and freestanding signs
    • Show setbacks from the property lines for all freestanding signs
    • For more information on site plans, see our example
  • Mounting details:  show how wall signs will be anchored to the wall
  • Free standing or monument:  provide footing details that show how the sign will be secured to the ground.  Plans and calculations by an Arizona registrant (engineer) are required.
  • Exception:  masonry wall less than seven feet in height do not require an engineer.
  • Show disconnecting means
  • Provide outdoor lighting code documentation.
    • Illumination details:  color temperature and timer information.  See Pima County Outdoor Lighting Code
  • Detailed elevations:


  • A waiver to the setback and landscaping ratio requirements for freestanding signs may be granted by the director.  See the Zoning Code 18.79.080
  • Process to obtain a waiver:
    • Submit a letter requesting the waiver to the Chief Zoning Inspector and a check payable to the Pima County Treasurer for $134.
  • If a waiver to a setback or landscaping requirement is not approvable as a waiver, the applicant may apply for a variance.

Signs on Major Streets and Routes Right of Way

Signs posted within the setback limits of Major Streets and Routes shall require submitting a signed agreement.
