This project was part of an effort by several private and public entities to preserve and vitalize the central square of Ajo. The square was built circa 1917 by the mine company in an effort to give the residents of Ajo a civic identity. The square has been used throughout Ajo’s history and continues to be used today for a wide variety of public gatherings.
The scope of this project included repairs to the existing building, restoration of portions of the building to their original configuration, installation of a new HVAC system, construction of two publicly accessible restrooms and reconfiguration of the floor levels to allow for better public access.
