The Joel D. Valdez Main Library downtown will reopen Tuesday, Jan. 21, after a truck fire in the underground garage closed the library early Friday.

All Pima County Public Library locations are closed Monday, Jan. 20, to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Civil Rights Day.

The Main Library is open on Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Please visit the Pima County Public Library website for more information.

The library was evacuated Friday morning after a truck fire in the underground parking garage set off the library fire alarms.

    No one was injured.

The alarm went off at about 8:50 a.m., before the library’s scheduled 9 a.m. opening time, according to Librarian Tom Farmer.

Tucson Fire Department responded, and the fire was under control by 9:05, said Pat Corella, Pima County Public Library Deputy Director, who was among the evacuees outside in the Jacome Plaza and Presidio Park Plaza.
