CMHA is responsible for the local Overdose Fatality Review (OFR) committee operations, facilitating investigations, data collection, and dissemination of reports. The mission of the OFR committee is to investigate, research, and report key trends found in local drug overdose fatalities.
The committee conducts confidential reviews of overdose deaths to understand the prominence of certain risk factors that are revealed through a reconstruction of events and thorough review of a person’s history and demographics. From this, the team aims to strengthen prevention strategies, improve system-level operations, inform local health providers and first responders, and ultimately reduce the number of overdose deaths in Pima County.
The committee is a multi-disciplinary team consisting of key subject matter experts from several fields (i.e. Law Enforcement, Fire Department, Hospitals, Office of the Medical Examiner, Pima County Attorney’s Office, Public Health, etc.). The OFR committee is funded by the Office of Injury and Violence Prevention at Arizona Department of Health Services.
