     Pavement Preservation

Starting Sunday night, September 19 through Monday morning, September 20, between the nighttime hours of 7 p.m. and 7 a.m., the Pima County Department of Transportation, its contractor, Borderland Construction, and Tucson Electric Power (TEP), will be installing a new conduit electric line near the Pima County Fairgrounds. This work is part of the roadway improvement construction project on South Houghton Road from the I-10 interchange to Andrada Polytechnic High School.

     Project Activity

The contractor, along with TEP, will be installing a new conduit electric line. This work will require a nighttime closure on Houghton Road between Brekke Road and Dawn Road. In order to maintain traffic along Houghton Road, a detour will be implemented around the fairgrounds using Brekke Road or Dawn Road.

     Project Scope

Improvements will include widening of South Houghton Road from a 2-lane roadway to a divided 4-lane roadway, a separated multi-use path that will connect to the loop and, drainage and intersection improvements.   The project is expected to be completed late winter of 2022/2023.

Please approach the area with caution and obey all traffic control devices. Traffic control changes and speed reductions will occur as work progresses.
