Pima County and the Mexican Baseball Fiesta are teaming up to give away free tickets at a mobile COVID-19 vaccination clinic during the annual event, Sept. 30 to Oct. 3 at
Kino Stadium, 2500 E. Ajo Way.
Anyone showing up for their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine will receive two vouchers for general admission tickets, which can be redeemed on the same day.
The 10th annual Vamos a Tucson Mexican Baseball Fiesta will feature doubleheaders on each of the four days. The event will include four teams from the Mexican Pacific League (Liga Mexicana Del Pacifico), as well as the University of Arizona, which will play in the second game of the doubleheader on Oct. 3 to begin its fall schedule under new coach Chip Hale.
The band La Brissa will perform in the stadium after the doubleheader on Friday, Oct. 1.
Free vaccinations will take place in a tent outside the Kino Stadium ticket office and will be open from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sept. 30, Oct. 1 and Oct. 2. Vaccinations will be offered from 3:30 to 6 p.m. before the Wildcats play on Oct. 3.
The Pfizer, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson vaccines will be available. People can also receive a second-dose shot if they are due, but free vouchers are only for first-dose shots.
"The Mexican Baseball Fiesta feels it is important to encourage people to continue to get vaccinated," said Mike Feder, president of the Mexican Baseball Fiesta, which is supplying the vouchers for free tickets. "We're proud to be working with Pima County on this effort."
The teams from Mexico are Naranjeros de Hermosillo, Yaquis de Obregon, Aguilas de Mexicali, and Mayos de Navojoa. Tickets for the Mexican Baseball Fiesta are on sale at
MexicanBaseballFiesta.com.
"The Kino Sports Complex is happy to continue to support the County's vaccination efforts and meet people where they are at," said Kino Sports Complex Director Reenie Ochoa. "We hope people will take up this offer for free tickets and get vaccinated to help protect the community."
