In December, Pima Animal Care Center hoisted a tent designed to help us address chronic overcrowding at our aging facility, built nearly 50 years ago for a much smaller population.none

Now that meticulous work has been completed to make sure this temporary solution will be safe and comfortable for our pets, the much-anticipated day has come.

On Friday, March 7, at 10 a.m., our first residents will be introduced to their new digs, complete with electricity, heating/cooling and custom kennels that we can continue to use in a more permanent facility in the future.

The first 35 of 100 kennels are ready to go and we’re thrilled. Reducing crowding reduces stress for our pets and volunteers, and reduces the likelihood that illness will be transmitted to healthy pets.

To celebrate the milestone, we’re offering free pet adoptions through Sunday! We’re open noon to 7 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekends.

And if you want to bring us a little “tent-warming” gift of a leash or some canned dog food, we’ll ask our pets to give you a little thank-you wiggle. (It’s cuter from them than from us.)

Pima Animal Care Center is one of 50 shelters across the nation participating in a challenge to adopt out more pets this summer. Stay posted for fun events and specials to help us meet our goal of adopting, rescuing and returning to their owners 5,000 pets from June through August.
