picture of dogPIMA COUNTY, Nov. 1, 2021 – For the month of November, anyone bringing in a canned good can get a $0 adoption fee for all pets four months and up. Puppies and kittens will still be $50 each. A $20 licensing fee may apply per adopted pet. Reservation fees will not be included in the promotion.

Adopters will also have a chance to spin a wheel to win various prizes like dog strollers, kennels, pet toys, leashes, collars, cat scratchers and more. Once the month is over, staffers and volunteers will take the donations to distribute to local food banks.

“PACC has been so lucky to have such a supportive community during what felt like the longest and busiest summer ever,” said Monica Dangler, Director of Animal Services. “We wanted to find a way to give back to the community as a way to pay it forward.”

November also is “Adopt a Senior Pet Month” and all senior pets at Pima Animal Care Center always have $0 adoption fees.

Currently, PACC has 655 pets in search of foster or forever homes, and 1,049 pets in foster care that also need homes. PACC is still dealing with an abundance of large dogs, having to place some in meet and greet rooms and popup kennels. This increase in large dogs is caused by a combination of several reasons, including healthy strays being brought directly to the shelter when found, an increase in calls to Pet Support, dogs that prefer to be solo in the kennel, and an influx of animals that are part of Animal Protection Services’ investigations.

“We are still in need of adopters and fosters,” Dangler said. “We often begin each day with only a couple of open kennels.”

PACC will be closed on Nov. 11 for Veterans Day, but staff wanted to remind the public that veterans always have waived fees for the adoption of a pet.
