Pima County’s Natural Resources, Parks and Recreation Department (NRPR) has raised pay for lifeguards to $15.75/hour this summer in response to an urgent need to hire additional personnel to monitor safety at its nine swimming pools throughout the County.

“We offer one of the highest starting wages to lifeguards in the region,” said Grant Bourguet, NRPR recreation program manager. “We’re offering convenient classes during spring break in March, and on other weekends in March and April.”  Visit the Pima County Employment and Lifeguard Training Program, which lists the required certifications, schedule of training classes and the 2022 application.  Pima County requires all employees, including lifeguards, to be vaccinated by their scheduled start date.

Three lifeguard training classes have been added this spring to make sure the County has enough guards to safely staff its pools and avoid possible pool closures on Sundays.

The American Red Cross lifeguard training classes are mandatory for all lifeguarding positions.
