Training Graphic Are you new to shooting sports?  We offer classes and private instruction. Our experienced instructors can provide you with the training you need to operate your firearm safely. Unless otherwise noted, all classes take place at Southeast Regional Park Shooting Range.

Firearm Classes and Training

Age Restrictions

‚ÄčThese classes have age restrictions, so PLEASE enter your birth date when you set up your ActiveNet registration account or the site will not let you enroll.
For inquiries about training classes, or to request a private lesson, please email our training department at shootingsports_classes@pima.gov (shootingsports_classes@pima.gov).

We provide all required equipment (firearms, ammunition, and safety equipment) for all basic classes.

Note: If you have to cancel a class registration or transfer to another class, there is a $10 refund fee and a $5 transfer fee.  Point of contact is Lisa Uthe, (520) 724-5264.

Women's Introduction to Handguns (Ages 16+)     $35  

This class is designed for women who are new to handguns. You’ll learn shooting fundamentals such as grip, stance, and sight alignment, along with basic safety rules and your responsibilities as a gun owner.

Basic Handgun Safety (Ages 16+)     $35   

This class is designed to teach the basics of handgun safety, including basic safety rules, safe handgun operation, and your responsibilities as a gun owner. You’ll learn s

Basic Rifle Safety (Ages 10+)     $35

This class is designed to teach the basics of rifle safety, including basic safety rules, safe rifle operation, and your responsibilities as a gun owner. You’ll learn shooting fundamentals such as shooting positions, trigger control, and sight alignment.

Shotgun: Beginner Trap (Ages 10+)  $40  

This class is designed to provide an introduction to trap shooting. A shotgun and ammunition will be provided for those taking the class.

Shotgun: Intermediate Skeet (Ages 10+)  $40   

This class is designed to provide additional instruction to those already familiar with skeet shooting. A shotgun and ammunition will be provided for those taking the class.

Archery: Pima County Introduction to Archery  $35

This class offers a one-hour introduction to the sport of archery. Topics include archery safety, introduction to equipment, shooting fundamentals (stance, draw, aim, and release), and retrieving arrows and maintenance. It prepares the student for the next level archery class (Practical Archery). Equipment provided or you may bring your own.

Archery: Pima County Practical Archery  $35

This class offers one-hour of practical archery instruction. Topics include sighting in, ranging, windage and improving accuracy. The class will also teach you drawing techniques and form. It is designed to reinforce basic archery skills so the student can learn to shoot longer distances. Equipment is provided or you may bring your own.

NRA Basic Range Safety Officer  $120

This is the "NRA Basic Range Safety Officer" certification course.  Its objective is to teach the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to organizing, conducting, and supervising safe shooting activities and range operations.

Request Private Lessons
