  • RWRAC Meeting Update

Budgets were the primary focus of the May 26 meeting of the Pima County Regional Wastewater Reclamation Advisory Committee (RWRAC), as the committee got an in-depth look at how the department uses its funding.

The meeting opened with a special presentation by Pima County Regional Wastewater Reclamation Department (RWRD) Director Jackson Jenkins, who took the committee through the details of the department’s budget. He also reviewed some of the different projects that RWRD has been involved in over the past few years, and emphasized the department’s commitment to protecting both the public health and the environment.

He also said that the Capital Improvement Office (CPO) will be taking over management of some of RWRD’s larger capital improvement projects. Several committee members requested more information about this development, and Jenkins said that there would be a special presentation on the subject at a future meeting.

CIP Subcommittee Chair Asia Philbin provided a summary of the subcommittee’s most recent meeting, on May 19. She said they discussed a number of topics, including the RWRD Facility Plan and the CIP budget. There was no report from the Financial Subcommittee, as Matt Matthewson was absent.

Next, Finance and Risk Management (FRMD) Supervisor Robert Szilagyi, filling in for Mandy Armenta, provided and reviewed an expense and revenue summary for Period 10 of the fiscal year 2021-22. Then, Alison Jones of the Citizens’ Water Advisory Committee (CWAC) provided a brief report on the committee’s most recent meeting, on May 4.

Finally, the committee voted to have Scott Oldendorph and Claire Zucker continue their roles as chair and vice chair, respectively, of RWRAC. A brief discussion was held about whether to consider holding in-person meetings, and the consensus was to continue holding remote meetings for now.

The next meeting is scheduled to take place virtually on June 23. To view the agendas, minutes and videos of previous meetings, visit the RWRAC page on www.pima.gov/wastewaterreclamation
