Youth Career ExpoPima County could be the top logistics center in Arizona and even the Southwest, and that means good-paying jobs right here for young people with the right skills and education.

Young people in Pima County, ages 14-21, and their parents can learn about logistics and what they need to do to prepare for promising logistics careers at a free Youth Career Expo on Wednesday, April 30.

The expo is from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Port of Tucson, 6964 E. Century Park Drive. Parents are also encouraged to attend. Please see and share the attached flier.

Space is limited so please RSVP to no later than Friday, April 25. If transportation to the expo is a problem, let Linda know when you register.

Logistics is about managing the flow of materials, products and even people across town, across the state, across the country and around the world so offices and factories can produce, warehouses and stores are stocked, restaurants can cook, and the things we want to buy are on the shelves, racks and showroom floors when we want them.

Pima County is ideally situated to grow its logistics industry – with two airports, east-west rail and interstate highway, and Mexico with its deep-water port to the south – to be “the number one logistics center in all of Arizona and probably in the Southwest,” as Pima County Administrator Chuck Huckelberry told a professional group in March.

Youth Career ExpoThe expo will include speakers, information booths and breakout sessions on logistics career paths and options.

It is presented by the Pima County Workforce Investment Board Youth Council and One-Stop Career Center and hosted by the Port of Tucson, in partnership with the Tucson Airport Authority, Tucson Youth Development and the Office of Pima County School Superintendent.

The Pima County Workforce Investment Board Youth Council has presented Youth Career Expos on health care in 2012, and on biotechnology and on aerospace, defense, manufacturing, and machining in 2013.
