Pima County Supervisor Richard Elías announced Tuesday that Pima County has made an offer to purchase the 286-acre Painted Hills Property from the Dallas Police and Fire Pension System for $7.5 million. The purchase will be made using open space bond funding approved by County taxpayers.

"Purchasing the Painted Hills property will be one of the most important land conservation deals in Pima County's history," Elías said. "This purchase gets us one step closer to protecting our region's vast Sonoran Desert habitat and native species, which have proven to be an important indicator of our tourism industry and of our quality of life."
