    Who was Augie Acuna?

    Augie Acuna was one of the people who played a major part in bringing the Colorado Rockies baseball team to Tucson. Augie was a major contributor to the field of sports, beginning with his basketball and baseball days at Tucson High School (1938). He was a semi-pro in the Tucson City League, championship teams for the S.P. “Rails” and “Aztecas” and played City AAA fast-pitch baseball and softball. He was Sports & Playground Director (for 15 years) and Recreation Superintendent (for 20 years). He was responsible for organizing baseball leagues, tournaments and clinics, as well as track & field meets for 48 schools in Pima County. In 1981, Augie Acuna was inducted into the Southern Arizona Baseball-Softball Hall of Fame Foundation.
