New sports lighting was installed at the existing senior field north of the Julian Wash at Thomas Jay Park. A new Musco control system was installed to control existing lights on two other fields at the park.
This improved lighting extends the times the fields can be used. The new field lighting system also allows for online tracking and control of the lighting system. This improves the management, scheduling and maintenance of the sports fields. This installation brings the equipment into compliance with the current standards set by Pima County Natural Resources Parks and Recreation.
The project design included a creative response to the existing electrical service size. When originally installed, the electrical service was at a lower voltage than similar parks, as this was just the first of several fields at this location. To accommodate a future upgrade in voltage service, the design used a 480 volt design, and used a step up transformer in order to do so. This will result in properly sized wiring and fixtures when the electrical service is upgraded.
