The project was developed jointly with the Arizona Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration. It involved the construction and reconditioning of the I-19 East Frontage Road from south of the Canoa Road Interchange to the Continental Road Interchange, a total length of approximately 4.6 miles. The project included the following improvements:
- Three new bridges over Esperanza Wash, Unnamed Wash and the Braided ramp at the I-19 Continental Road Interchange
- Approximately 2 miles of newly constructed roadway
- Paved Shoulders
- Signalization of the southbound and northbound I-19 ramps
- Widening of Continental Road under I-19 for additional travel lanes
- Construction of a combined off-ramp for northbound I-19 and southbound, east Frontage Road Traffic
- Art work on the retaining walls along Continental Road, and landscaping at the Continental Road Interchange
The project completes the linkages in the Frontage Road system from Continental Road south to Arivaca Junction and Arivaca Road. The Frontage Road provides additional access and circulation opportunities for the southern portion of the Green Valley.
