The Pantano River Park 2004 bond project was originally installed from Michael Perry Park north to Kenyon Road. This completed project had enough remaining funds to allow for second phase to install an additional half mile stretch of river park south of Michael Perry Park to Sellarole Road. This phase two installation included a new neighborhood trail head at Stella road, divided urban path including both asphalt and soft path, landscaping, and extensive drainage improvements including two major culvert crossings, several minor crossings and erosion control swales along the path.
Heavy rains required repair and reconfiguration during construction. This project was comparatively expensive
to construct for its length due to the drainage issues (extensive uncontrolled onsite flow from the neighborhood) and additional infrastructure costs such as installation of new barricade railing along the entire stretch of river bank.
This extension creates a key neighbhorhood connection point to the riverpark, and also serves as a key connection to the future Harrison Greenway.
