The Lawrence Park Softball Field park improvements include a new softball field with sports lighting, associated landscaping, irrigation, paths, parking lot with lighting, drainage way improvements with connections to existing complex and adjacent school and new utility services and entry drive. The utility services and entry drive are all sited for a future installation of a community center, and long term installation of a pool and additional fields per the master plan. This resulted in a more expensive first phase installation than just a typical softball field, but will greatly reduce future project construction costs on the community center.
This is the first softball field installed at Lawrence Park, and the local league is very excited to have a dedicated field for the upcoming season. The project additionally provided initial architectural designs for a future community center, per the original 1997 bond scope.
This project was planned cooperatively with the Tucson Unified School District (TUSD), and will result in increased shared use between the two agencies. The drainage improvements will serve both the County and the TUSD site, and improvements have been made for pedestrian ADA access between the school and the park. A future planned bus depot east of the new field site will also result in a shared entry drive to be maintained by the school district.
