Public transit in Pima County and City of Tucson is provide by Sun Tran and Sun Shuttle. Pima County does not manage these services, but provides financial assistance to the City of Tucson and Regional Transportation Authority. Sun Tran operates fixed-route buses throughout the metropolitan region including limited areas of unincorporated Pima County. Sun Shuttle operates fixed route vans and dial-a-ride service to rural communities. For specific information, click on the links below:
Rural Transit - Sun Shuttle
The Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) operates rural transit service in Marana, Oro Valley, Catalina, Sahuarita, Green Valley, San Xavier, Tucson Estates and Ajo. Sun Shuttle busses operate along fixed routes, but some routes allow flag stops and pick-ups or drop-offs within 3/4 mile of Sun Shuttle routes if pre-arranged.
Sun Shuttle Dial-A-Ride
Sun Shuttle provides dial-a-ride service for individuals with disabilities and who live within the eligibility area, which includes parts of Pima County, central Tucson, and portions of Marana and Oro valley. The vehicles are bright green and say "Discount Cab" on the side.
These services are only available to persons who qualify through the ADA Eligibility Office, in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The ADA Eligibility Office of the City of Tucson determines eligibility for all special needs transportation in the region. Once approved for services, advance reservations are required.
