The project installed a pedestrian HAWK signal across Palo Verde Road on the south leg of the intersection of Palo Verde Road and Lincoln Street. The HAWK installation was in response to increased pedestrian traffic across Palo Verde Road to and from the Tanque Verde Swap Meet in the vicinity of the Lincoln Street intersection.
Pedestrian improvements between Columbia Street and Lincoln Street included relocating the existing bus stop near the HAWK signal at Columbia. The project also extended the raised median south of Lincoln Street on Palo Verde Road to provide a dedicated left turn lane for the existing businesses on the east side of Palo Verde Road. Chain link fencing was installed within the new median to encourage use of the HAWK signals and discourage J-walking.
