  • SW-02 Ina Road Landfill Closure: Phase 1

    Total Actual Cost: $11,408,357
    Project Number: CDE2INARD
Funding Sources: 1997 General Obligation Bonds, RFCD Tax Levy
    Completion Date: July 2020
Managing Dept.: Department of Environmental Quality
    Project Map: GIS Map

The Ina Road Landfill project was originally estimated at $11.3M for full closure. This project was underfunded, and required an alternative approach to be completed. This was necessary in order to take advantage of available soil from the CalPortland site, which had timeline restrictions in order to be used for this project. First, the project was split into two phases with the first to adjust the landfill as a grading only project to prepare for final cover and drainage/stabilization. This included creation of the necessary basins. The next phase would be delivered separately, including transportation of the available soil, and final cap and stabilization of the site.

This project used a multiple source approach, as the site has a nexus with both the Regional Flood Control District (RFCD) and Regional Wastewater Reclamation Department (RWRD). Once fully closed, RWRD will be re-purposing the site in order to create a solar drying field.
