    July 22, 2016 -The Health Department is asking residents to be aware of skin lightening products that may contain mercury which is highly toxic and can make you and your family very sick. If you have any products that may contain mercury, stop use and follow the proper disposal process for this hazardous waste. Read more about precautions and proper disposal method.

    June 16, 2016 - The Health Department in conjunction with the Pima County Sheriff's Department and the National Weather Service would like to advice the community of the near record heat for the upcoming weekend through the beginning of next week (June 18-22). Read the release for more information.

    September 4, 2015 - The Health Department would like to remind people to practice safe food handling due to a multi-state salmonella outbreak.     October 2, 2014 - The Health Department has released a public health alert with information regarding the recent U.S. Ebola case and Arizona's protocols for monitoring diseases such as Ebola.


    August 11, 2014 syphilis is on the rise in Pima County. The Health Department is asking medical providers to be on the look out for signs and symptoms of the disease.   Please refer to the syphilis webpage for information regarding testing and treatment. 

    November 15, 2013 of pertussis (whooping cough) at Vail School District Schools, the Pima County Health Department has expanded recommendations previously made to Empire High School to parents at Sycamore Elementary School. These recommendations can be found on the VUSD webpage

    October 30, 2013 - The Health Department has released a letter to parents of students at Empire High School informing them of an increase in cases of pertussis (whooping cough) and expanded disease control recommendations. The Pima County Health Department is working closely with Vail Unified School District to implement these recommendations.
